It has been just over 14 years since Sunset Bay / Arctic Spas opened in Regina. Many remember the crazies sitting in the Hot Tub in front of the store that winter. We set out to convince the people of Regina and Southern Saskatchewan that “hot-tubbin” is a pleasurable and therapeutic experience even in the extreme weather conditions common in Saskatchewan. It was a tough sell for the first few years. Eventually, word got out about how fun “hot-tubbin” is. It is a great way to hang out with friends or family. As well it’s not just a good time – it’s good for you too, and our customers have discovered the medical benefits.
In 1997, Blue Falls altered the brand name, redesigned the product, reworked the marketing strategy and revised the manufacturing process to boost the Arctic Spa line from ordinary to superior. The result has been over a decade of solid growth. During the same period, Blue Falls went from four local stores, including Sunset Bay, to more than 250 dealers in 30 countries. The manufacturing facility has been expanded 3 times, from 30,000 square feet to 175,000 square feet to keep production on pace with consumer demand. Sales increases averaging more than 45% annually catapulted Blue Falls into the Profit Magazine list of Canada’s Fastest Growing Companies three times. Overseas growth has followed suit. The distribution location in England opened at 13,000 square feet and within six months was tripled to 43,000 square feet to meet 300% annual growth. This was followed by distribution facilities in Australia, Estonia and Russia. The company’s signature line is Arctic Spas. Arctic Spas are built for the rigors of Northern Canada. Unique features include perimeter insulation that surrounds the tub and the plumbing, a fibreglass shell that transfers heat to and from the equipment bay, an insulated floor that eliminates the need for a concrete pad and a thicker-than-average cover. Arctic Spas are resistant to freezing during power outages and have a low operating cost According to testing done by the Alberta Research Council, they are among the most energy-efficient hot tubs available. Blue Falls maintains a full research and development department with state-of-the-art design systems and one of only two rapid prototyping machines in the province. The company strives for constant improvement, making up to 100 changes per year in products or processes. Recent accomplishments include an AutoDesk Design Award for the Tundra Spa. This is the first spa to achieve this recognition. A 2005 design the Frontier Spa, was an AutoDesk runner-up. The company designed and built an SMC press to pre-mould fibreglass floors. Dissatisfied with the quality and efficiency of existing jets, the company created new designs that spin faster and longer. The design was patented in March, 2005. To achieve better control over quality and costs, the company opened a joint venture factory in Zhongshan, China to manufacture jets and other components. In 2004, Arctic Spas began designing and building our own line of Billiard Tables, combining the best features of North American manufacturers. The result is the “Strongest, Heaviest, Thickest” table in the marketplace. These tables are solid hardwood., and combine Old World design and technology. We would like to invite all of our customers – current and future – to visit our showroom and see the difference in our Spas and Billiard Tables. As well we are continually adding products to supply the demand of our customers. *** IT’S TIME TO ENJOY A HIGHER DEGREE OF LIVING ***
